Sheraton Bandung Hotel & Towers will once again hold “Celebration for Children”, an exhibition featuring orchids for children. The event is aimed to raise funds for social mission.
“Celebration for Children” will take place at the
Sheraton Bandung Hotel and Towers Garden. It will run from July 14 through 18, 2010 and will be open for public at 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
“Celebration for Children” will display a range of varieties of superior orchids made available by orchid farmers in West Java. Part of the proceeds will go to UNICEF – COFC (Check Out for Children Challenge) for programs of disadvantaged children.
Though the event themed “celebration for Children”, we, under the flagship of
Starwood, celebrate 15th years of cooperation between
Starwood Hotels and Resorts throughout the world and UNICEF. Sheraton Bandung Hotel & Towers always take part in supporting UNICEF through a program recommending every in house guest to share by contributing US$ 1 upon checking out. Up till now, the program is still running.
The program made possible thanks to great supports from ETSDC, Indonesian Orchid Farmers Association (APAI), the Indonesian Orchid Association (PAI), West Java Province Agriculture Office and Sheraton Bandung Hotel & Towers.
We would like to use this opportunity to invite and ask you to come and view the works of Indonesian orchid farmers from West Java. Orchid exhibition is a rare exhibition, at least when compared to exhibitions of other works.
The five-day exhibition is expected to attract orchid enthusiast, especially those eager to learn more about the behavior of orchids. The exhibition will present orchid expert Dr. Wieny H Rizki, who has developed orchid through a tissue culture process and has produced orchid-based handicrafts as a souvenir, such as key holders.
The latest and most encouraging news in regards to orchid is that Indonesia has been succeeded in breaking the record of finding the smallest orchid in the world, which has been held by American scientist for many years. The American scientist has found a super small orchid flower by accident among the roots of plants that he has collected from Cerro Candelaria Natural Sanctuary in East Andes. Now, LIPI Indonesia (the Indonesian Institute of Science) has discovered the genus Oberronia sp type, measuring 1.1 mm – 1.5 mm, the world’s smallest orchid, in Mentawai Islands. Currently, the world’s smallest orchid record is found in Ecuador. The orchid is 2 mm - 2.1 mm wide, having a transparent eyelid and one cell. These orchids belong to Platystele genus.
With the finding of the smallest orchid in Indonesian, Indonesia can at least replace Ecuador in terms of the world’s smallest orchid. Ecuador’s orchid was previously claimed to be the world’s smallest orchid.
The finding of the world’s smallest orchid in Indonesia will offer the possibility of finding other orchids in smaller size in Indonesia given that there are still numerous Oberonia sp species in the country that have yet to be the target of research.
Come and see the Orchid Exhibition and own orchid as ancient flower with all the uniqueness and beautiful shapes while making charitable contributions to children. “Celebration for Children”. Only at
Sheraton Bandung Hotel and Towers.
